An opportunity has arisen to join our Formulation Development team as a formulation chemist to deliver rapid throughput of new cosmetic/cosmeceutical products and the formulation development of a range of topical pharmaceutical medicines and medical devices.
This role will be varied requiring cross functional collaboration with several departments to drive projects from concept to launch while ensuring the company’s quality, safety and efficacy standards are met.
The ideal candidate will have a background in product research and development of topical formulations, demonstrate strong critical thinking skills and be adaptable to change.
This role will include:
- Design, plan and development of robust formulations based on the project brief while considering required claims, novel technologies, excipient/packaging compatibility, product performance, physical characteristics, physicochemical stability, sustainability, risks and costs.
- Fully and accurately document all research and development activities, working on multi-projects simultaneously.
- Hands-on involvement in pilot plant and laboratory operations, including formulation, manufacture, and scale-up of development and pilot batches with participation in batch manufacturing activities to support robust technology transfer from development to commercial manufacture.
- Completion of routine operational and GMP activities, including ordering and control of raw materials, stock management, equipment readiness, environmental monitoring and housekeeping in accordance with site procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Work collaboratively within the team environment to find solutions to problems related to both supporting and troubleshooting existing and new product development.
- Keep up to date with the latest industry trends and scientific advancements through research and identify potential opportunities to help drive product improvements and innovation.
Other skills and experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in cosmetic or pharmaceutical sciences.
- Experience in formulation development of skincare or personal care, topical/ transdermal formulations, preferably in cosmetics or pharmaceutical industries.
- Strong knowledge of cosmetic/pharmaceutical ingredients and their interactions.
- Familiarity with cosmetic, medicinal, or medical device regulations.
- Have a ‘can do’ attitude with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively to a team setting.
- Passion for continuous learning and a growth mindset.
- Excellent report writing skills.
