Musculoskeletal conditions
Musculoskeletal conditions involve the muscles, tendons, ligaments and other soft tissues. Musculoskeletal diseases are widespread in the UK, affecting 20 million people. These conditions can be extremely painful and incapacitating. The two most frequent types of chronic pain are 'common arthritic conditions' and 'rheumatism':
- 'arthritis' is the term used to describe problems involving inflammation or damage to the structure of a joint;
- 'rheumatism' generally involves muscular pain.
